Spicy Honey Garlic Shrimp

  • Author: Grace
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick and flavorful 15-minute dinner featuring sweet honey, punchy garlic, and a spicy kick, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) medium or large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 tablespoons (60ml) honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) soy sauce (low-sodium recommended)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) fresh lime juice
  • Optional garnish: chopped green onions or fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Peel and devein shrimp if not already done. Mince garlic finely. Measure honey, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes. Mix sauce ingredients ahead of cooking.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, and lime juice. Set aside.
  3. Heat skillet over medium-high heat and add oil. When shimmering, add shrimp in a single layer. Cook undisturbed for about 2 minutes until pink on one side, then flip and cook another 2 minutes until opaque and springy.
  4. Push shrimp to the sides of the pan. Add minced garlic to the center and stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  5. Pour in the honey-soy sauce mixture and toss everything together. Let simmer for 1-2 minutes until sauce thickens and coats shrimp.
  6. Remove from heat. Sprinkle chopped green onions or cilantro if desired. Serve immediately over steamed rice, noodles, or with sautéed greens.

Notes

[‘Do not overcook shrimp to avoid rubbery texture; remove from heat as soon as shrimp turn pink and opaque.’, ‘Use fresh garlic for best flavor; avoid jarred garlic.’, ‘Adjust red pepper flakes to control spice level.’, ‘Mix sauce ingredients before cooking to save time and ensure even flavor.’, ‘If sauce is too thick, add a splash of water or lime juice; if too thin, simmer longer.’, ‘Cook shrimp in batches if pan is crowded to maintain heat and texture.’, ‘Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently with a splash of water or lime juice.’]
