Description
A quick and crispy 12-minute dinner hack featuring jumbo shrimp coated in panko and tossed in a creamy, spicy, sweet bang bang sauce, cooked perfectly in an air fryer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound jumbo raw shrimp (peeled, deveined, thawed, and patted completely dry)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg (beaten with 1 tablespoon water)
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of garlic powder (optional, for panko)
- Cooking spray (avocado oil or neutral oil)
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2–3 tablespoons hot sauce (Frank’s RedHot or Sriracha)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 green onions (sliced, for serving)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
- Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour and salt, one with beaten egg and water, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each dry shrimp in the flour, shaking off excess. Dip into the egg wash, letting excess drip off, then press firmly into the panko to coat completely.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil. Arrange shrimp in a single layer without overlapping (cook in batches if necessary).
- Spray the tops of the shrimp lightly with oil.
- Air fry for 5 minutes, then flip the shrimp and spray the other side with oil.
- Cook for another 5-7 minutes until pink, opaque, and crispy (internal temperature 145°F).
- While shrimp cook, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, honey, and lemon juice in a small bowl to make the sauce.
- Transfer cooked shrimp to a large bowl. Toss with about half the sauce to keep them crispy; reserve the rest for dipping.
- Serve immediately topped with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
Ensure shrimp are completely dry before breading to prevent soggy coating. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed. Reserve half the sauce for dipping to maintain crispiness. For gluten-free, use GF panko. For dairy-free, use dairy-free mayo.
